Looking Glass (1992.92)
Dominy valued the looking glass frame at £1.4s, accounting for the expense of veneering the frame elements with mahogany, cutting and applying the decorative scrollwork, and inlaying stringing.
The cost of the imported, mercury-silvered glass would have added substantially to the total price. After marrying Elnathan Parsons in 1786, Urania Dominy, Nathaniel’s sister, came into possession of the looking glass, and it descended in the Parsons and Sherrill families.
