While files found more use in the clockmaking shop, the Dominys used different files in their woodworking too, such as the horse float file to work hardwoods, the half-round file for cabinetmaking, and more general files for sharpening tools. The Dominys carved lines or shaved into the handles of many of their files to prevent them from rolling off the workbench, indicating their frequent use.
