The Dominy shops contain approximately 1,000 tools. Manuscript records show a constant flow of new tools into the Dominy shops and an equally constant conversion of worn-out tools into new and useful implements from the 1760's on. At least one woodworking apprentice and eight journeymen--each of whom was frequently hired for short periods of time to help fill furniture orders and complete building contracts--worked in the shop alongside Nathaniel IV and Nathaniel V.
